Runes
The Elder Futhark
Think of your question and draw. Runes that come out upside down are read reversed; nine runes look the same either way and are never reversed.
How the runes are drawn
The 24 runes of the Elder Futhark lie in the bag, and the runes are drawn one by one without putting any back: quantum random numbers choose which. A second quantum random bit for each rune says whether it lies upside down. Nine runes (Gebo, Hagalaz, Nauthiz, Isa, Jera, Eihwaz, Sowilo, Ingwaz, Dagaz) look the same turned round, so they are never reversed.
No old source tells how runes were read for divination; the spreads are a modern custom. The meanings here are our own, after the names of the runes and the Old English, Norwegian and Icelandic rune poems. There is no blank rune: it was invented in the 1980s.
